Les is an only child. Although he has a great relationship with his parents, he doesn’t get to see them much due to everyday work obligations. Sensing his loneliness, his aunt often comes to see him whenever possible, bringing various souvenirs and foods from her travels.
One day, his aunt came by and took him to her workplace, where he discovered his aunt was a professional jazz session player.
He fell in love with the “colors of music” as described to him by his aunt and was eager to explore more. Thus, began private lessons with his aunt. Once he got to school, he signed up for any music group he could and filled his extracurriculars with everything music-related. He had the most fun in his jazz group of course.
One day, the Organ the jazz band was using needed repair. However, the director already planned to replace it with the more practical synthesizer. Les didn’t want to let it get thrown away after getting so attached to it so he struck a deal with the director. If Les could get it repaired, he could keep possession of it.
Having no idea what he was doing, Les called a local music gear repair shop. The person who came by was none other than Picks, who had no idea how to repair an Organ but succeeded. Not being sure if it’ll stay fixed, Picks gave a discount on the service.
Before they parted, the two clicked. Picks was enamored by Les’ playing, and the two ended up having a 3-hour jamming session, after which Picks asked if he could come by and play again. This became another fun after-school activity on non-practice days. Between the two, they started coming up with complete song structures.
On the way to one of these sessions, the school bully caught Les outside and started picking on him. Before anything got too serious, Shell appeared and scared them off. Les was thankful to Shell which jump-started various conversation topics. One of them was Shell’s ability to play drums. Les thought that Shell and Picks echoed similar music ideas, so he wanted to introduce them to each other.
Shell and Picks got along well, and it was here that Shell proposed starting an actual rock band. Les wasn’t too sold on the idea because he didn’t think the jazz style he was after meshed well with Rock. Still, he was willing to give it a shot. The only thing left was a bass player.
Over time, Les discovered Lowen from walking around town. Lowen was sitting reading a book with a guitar beside him. Les was too eager to introduce him to his newly found band. Lowen initially declined, then abruptly changed his mind and followed Les to their jamming spot. Les quickly learned that Lowen had no real playing experience like he thought.
However, Les noticed a sudden but drastic change in Lowen’s attitude, work ethic, and dedication to the band. Les became impressed at how resourceful and attentive Lowen was. Thanks to Lowen exploding Light Dash’s popularity, Les was suddenly making an income and traveling to a few places he’d always wanted to go but couldn’t.
Before he knew it, Les was part of a group he genuinely cared for. He ended up quitting his other jazz groups to focus on the band. This includes private sessions with his aunt, who still visits when their schedules align.
